Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

Having a vaccination plan can protect your cat from life-harming diseases.

Cats are vulnerable to developing various diseases, some of which can be life-threatening. Vaccination is the best way to give your feline friend immunity from viruses, diseases, parasites, and other dangers. At the Animal Hospital of Oakville, we have created a kitten wellness program to ensure your new pet gets the right start to their life. When enrolled in our wellness programs we ensure the patient never misses any doses and only get vaccines that meet their individual needs.

When should my kitten/cat be vaccinated?

Our kitten wellness program is designed to offer your new kitten all the benefits of veterinary services available to them from 6 weeks of age to 12 weeks of age. Your new pet should not be allowed outside until they have received their first vaccines. Adult cats should have boosters every 1 to 3 years depending on their health needs, lifestyle, and environment. Give us a call at 905-844-3331 to schedule a vaccine appointment for your pet.

Which vaccines may be recommended?

Your veterinarian may recommend a series of vaccinations for your cat based on what is required by law and how much risk your cat is exposed to. Core vaccines are mandatory for all cats and they include Rabies, Leukemia and Panleukopenia (distemper). Based on your pet's age, overall health status, and lifestyle, we may recommend being vaccinated against Feline Bordetella, Feline Chlamydia, and Feline Leukemia virus.

Do indoor cats need vaccines?

Yes, an indoor pet still needs to be vaccinated. They can catch viruses from humans, other pets, or even parasites that can be indoors.
