Orthopedic Services for Pets

Pets can hide their pain. Learn what to look out for and get them treated before it’s too late.

Orthopedic problems can develop in your pets at any time, whether due to their lifestyle, breed, age, or diet. Some common orthopedic conditions in pets are arthritis, cruciate ligament tears, bone fractures, hip dysplasia, luxating patella, and disc disease. Without regular veterinary checkups, orthopedic problems can go undetected because your pet will try to hide their pain. With any condition that your loyal companion may have, our team can provide a wide range of services to make them feel better. For more information on our orthopedic services, give us a call at 905-844-3331.

When is orthopedic surgery recommended for pets?

Orthopedic conditions affect your pet's joints, bones, ligaments, and tendons which make up your pet's musculoskeletal system. This system supports your pet's weight and posture, but most importantly, it controls their movement. When your pet has an orthopedic problem, they will display the following symptoms:

  • Reluctance to move, jump, or be active
  • Weight loss
  • Reduced mobility
  • Aggressiveness towards being touched or handled
  • Difficulty using the stairs

What treatment is available for orthopedic problems in pets?

As soon as you spot the signs that your pet is in pain and may have an orthopedic issue, please have them evaluated by a veterinarian. Based on your pet's diagnosis and the severity of their issue we may recommend any of the following:

  1. Surgery - Orthopedic surgery refers to surgery of the bone. We perform in-house ACL and we also have a specialist come in for complex procedures.
  2. Pain management - Orthopedic issues usually cause intense pain for your pet, which is why our team provides pain and anti-inflammatory drugs to make their lives more comfortable.
  3. Rehabilitation/Physical therapy - Laser therapy, acupuncture, aquatic therapy, along with regular low-impact exercises can help treat their problem.
  4. Weight loss - Excess weight can put more pressure on your pet's bones and joints. We can show you safe methods to help your pet lose unwanted fat.
